Getting Started with this Workshop


Install the CF CLI Log into the Pivotal CLoud Foundry Application Manager.

==If yopu are using a windows 10 based system start here, for linux or mac users jump to step 5

Step 1

Install bash on windows 10

click start menu
click on settings
click on update and security
Select for developers from the left menu panel
Under use developer features select developer mode
Deploy polly
click on yes
Deploy polly
Open Control Panel
Click on Programs
Click on Turn Windows features on or off
Check the Windows Subsystem for Linux
Deploy polly
Deploy polly
Click OK
Once the components installed on your computer, click the Restart now button to complete the task
Step 2

download distro
download unbuntu
Step 3

launch bash

run any one of the following:
start run bash.exe
click on the ubuntu icon on the start menu bar.
Step 4

add a linux user and password

Deploy polly

Install cf client

mkdir environment
Step 6

Clone Lab repo:

cd ~/environment
git clone
Step 7

add the cf CLI:

For windows bash users:
wget -q -O - | sudo apt-key add - echo "deb stable main" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/cloudfoundry-cli.list

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install cf-cli


sudo wget -O /etc/yum.repos.d/cloudfoundry-cli.repo

sudo yum install cf-cli
Step 8

Login to the PCF Foundation using the cf CLI:

cf login -a -u Student<YOUR STUDENT NUMBER> --skip-ssl-validation
(Password = Passw0rd)

Each student has been given OrgManager access to the Org matching the student name. You will note that when you login, the Org is already selected.

Orgs and Spaces are using in various ways. Customers we have engagded with use orgs as a means of project or team segration. Spaces are also used for either project or environment segragation.

e.g: org = team, space = project org = team1, space = frontend org = team1, space = midtier

org = project, space = env org = frontend, space = dev org = frontend, space = prod
